How We Refurbish & Test Our Devices

Every device goes through a careful inspection and preparation process before it’s offered for sale.

Our Refurbishment Process

At ReTech Resale, refurbishment means more than simply reselling used electronics. Each device we receive is carefully inspected, cleaned, and tested to ensure it meets our standards for reliability and performance.

Because much of our inventory comes from surplus, returns, and pallet electronics, every item is treated individually. Our goal is to provide dependable technology at an affordable price while giving devices a second life.

Below is the process we follow before any device reaches a customer.

1. Initial Inspection

When inventory arrives, every device is visually inspected and evaluated. We check for physical condition, missing components, and signs of damage. This step allows us to determine whether a device can be restored, requires repair, or should be responsibly recycled.

2. Functional Testing

Devices that pass inspection move into functional testing. Key components are checked to confirm proper operation, including:

  • Power and charging functionality
  • Screen condition and display quality
  • Keyboard, trackpad, or touchscreen response
  • Ports, Wi-Fi, and connectivity
  • Audio, camera, and basic hardware performance

Only devices that meet working standards continue through the process.

3. Cleaning and Preparation

Each device is cleaned and prepared for reuse. Exterior surfaces are sanitized, dust and debris are removed, and systems are reset for a fresh start.

Our goal is to ensure customers receive technology that feels ready to use — not simply resold.

4. Data Removal and Software Reset

Protecting data privacy is essential. All devices undergo a full system reset and data removal process before resale.

All storage devices are securely wiped using industry-standard data sanitization procedures consistent with NIST SP 800-88 (Media Sanitization Guidelines).

This process ensures all previous user data is permanently removed before any device is refurbished and prepared for resale.

Operating systems are reinstalled or restored when necessary so devices arrive ready for setup by the new owner.

5. Repairs and Necessary Upgrades

Some devices require minor repairs or part replacements. When appropriate, components such as batteries, chargers, storage drives, or accessories may be replaced to improve reliability and usability.

6. Final Quality Check

Before listing any item for sale, devices go through a final review to confirm functionality and overall condition.

Only devices that meet our standards are offered to customers.

Our Commitment

We believe refurbished technology should be dependable and transparent. While pre-owned electronics may show normal signs of prior use, our process is designed to ensure devices are functional, clean, and ready for everyday use.

Our mission is simple: provide affordable technology you can trust while reducing electronic waste.
